Cabin and Control
Productivity, safety and comfort
Operator Environment
The D8R features a pressurized cabin with insulation that reduces noise and vibration. Large single pane glass windows provide good views around the machine for maximum productivity and enhance safety at the work site. Comfort Series seats with a slope of 15 degrees for better visibility. This seat is equipped with an adjustable position and armrest to get a comfortable platform when working on sloping or steep surfaces. The gauges and warning lights on the dashboard instrument panel are easy to read, even in direct sunlight. The Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) displays a warning indicator that monitors the main components of the machine. The system provides three levels of warning and system monitoring so that operators always get information while still concentrating on work. Heating and AC ventilation evenly distributes air flow in the cabin. The cab has been prepared with cables for 12-volt or 24-volt radios, equipped with two speakers, an antenna and a radio installation on the ceiling of the cabin.
Dozer and Ripper controls
All D8R controls are ergonomically designed to be lightweight and easy to operate. The dozer and ripper control levers are equipped with load sensing hydraulics for added operator comfort and precise control. Load sensing hydraulics adjust implement and hydraulic power to improve operator and machine efficiency. The hydraulic system is equipped with a special implement pump to ensure adequate hydraulic power availability. The D8R features an optional dual blade tilt feature to further increase productivity.
Comfortable, Not Tiring Operation
Light-driven controls and Cat Contour Series Seats, with wide retractable seat belts, create an environment that reduces fatigue and maximizes productivity.
Steering and Transmission Control
The operator uses one control rod to move in all directions and selection of teeth. Tiller bar controls allow operators to work more accurately in narrow areas, around structures, grade stakes, and other machines. Differential Steering produces the best modulation in the industry and maintains strength on both sides of the track while turning and maintaining constant center line speed. Hydraulics through separate special pumps are used for driving, and are equipped with special pumps to provide more load-carrying power during turns.
A Rotating View Without Obstacles
The tilted hood and notched fuel tank give the operator an unobstructed line of sight to the front and rear work areas.

Engine
Large capacity and high torque increases allow the D8R to crush hard material. High cylinder capacity rating allows continuous operation for a long time. Turbocharger and aftercooler produce high horsepower while maintaining low rpm and exhaust gas temperature. An efficient direct injection fuel system saves fuel costs. The steel spacer between the block and cylinder head negates the need for block counter-bore, thus extending the block life. Engine components last longer because oil-cooled pistons and water-cooled cylinder liners produce maximum heat transfer that extends component life. Cylinder head also uses additional coolant ducts to maximize cooling to the rear of the engine. Stellite face valves, through complete hardening crankshaft journals and steel-reinforced copper-reinforced aluminum bearings help ensure reliable performance in the most demanding tasks.
