The analytics company Apptopia has just released a list of the 10 most downloaded apps and games in 2021. It"s no surprise that this list is filled with popular apps like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and others.
This Apptopia data is taken by looking at app stores such as the Google Play Store and Apple App Store to see which areas have the fastest growth and which apps have the largest number of downloads.
TikTok tops the list with 656 million downloads, followed by Instagram with 545 million downloads. Its two siblings, WhatsApp and Facebook, are in third and fourth place with 416 million downloads and 395 million downloads respectively.
Although the number of downloads is fantastic, this figure shows a decrease from the previous year. TikTok , for example, was downloaded 850 million times in 2020, while Facebook had 540 million downloads.
The app that had the biggest spike in downloads was Telegram. The number of Telegram downloads rose by 75 million, from 256 million downloads last year to 329 million downloads in 2021.
Four of the top 10 apps with the most downloads are owned by Meta. This year Bytedance managed to secure two positions, one for TikTok and one for video editor application CapCut which was ranked ninth.
Bytedance"s glory did not stop there. Their music streaming application, Resso, became the application with the second highest number of downloads in the music and audio application category, as quoted from Forbes, Saturday (1/1/2022).
Resso has been downloaded 85 million times so far in 2021, and is behind Spotify, which has 203 million downloads. This is quite surprising considering that Resso is currently only available in Brazil, India, and Indonesia, and its coverage is not as global as Spotify.
